SESSION FIFTEEN

28 Kythorn 1491 DR

Scarlet Moon Hall
On top of the hill is a ruinous circular wall surrounding a courtyard, a number of collapsed outbuildings and a 100ft tall dilapidated tower; despite the placename, there’s not a hall in sight.

Within the courtyard stands a burning wicker man, some 30ft high. The air is full of mist and smoke. Kahlan, snuck to the entrance of the courtyard and espied two robed figures—seemingly chanting or praying before the burning giant-- and also, a couple of lookouts armed with crossbows pacing the scaffolding erected against the tower; repairs were obviously being effected to the previously abandoned building.

The party launched their surprise attack. One priest was pushed by magical force so close to the wickerman that he combusted in flame. If he was a cultist of the flame then perhaps this would be his chosen method of death? – his agonised screams suggested otherwise.

The second priest, though wounded by an arrow called out: “Arise, and cleanse this place of the unworthy”. , to which the wicker giant obliged. Stepping forth from the burning effigy came a huge elemental. To defeat one elemental power, Bort unleashed another. Flinging his arms skyward he called upon Talos to unleash the power of the storm. The clouds above rolled back to reveal ad a pale luminescence that flashed with lighting, and then from the scar in the sky poured forth a deluge of sleet and rain upon the fiery giant.

The fight was fierce, but in the end the elemental was doused by the combined spell-casting of Bort and Burlap and the priests, crossbowmen and a pair of hell hounds were bested mostly by the efforts of Kahlan, Ellas and Slade.

The Tower
The entrance to the tower was blocked by rubble and looked like it had been in disuse for many years. The party ascended the scaffolding and entered the tower via a second floor window that had been widened out to make a doorway. The floor was missing. Looking below, the ground floor of the tower was hidden by a large amount of rubble – the collapsed floors and masonry of the floors above. Amongst the rubble, a string of strange glow lights, like burning embers, could be seen along the edge of one side of the tower.

The party stepped across the collapsed section of flooring to reach the remains of the stone stair and ascended the steps to reach the next floor up, which was nothing more than an open and empty space. Ascending the stair again, they reached the fourth story. The room here contained some basic furniture and two figures—a human male dressed in leathers, wearing a red cloak and smoking a pipe, and a dwarf sized figure with a broad muscular build and a fiery mane. The human has a definite air of confidence and leadership……..Elizar Dryflagon, leader of the cultists of Scarlet Moon Hall you may presume… …. ….
