It was another example of where the black guy gets killed off moments after being introduced...

Not by design mate, it was just that this particular one made a very, very bad decision!

The potential for disaster with this group astounds me.

Proper observation followed by decisive action, as a military man, I would have expected Lancelot to know this. I would also expect that he would be seeking to bring his 'team' together. Instead he seems fixated on our first meeting. Yes I did threaten him, and yes I still hold him partly responsible for Ernest's death, though not to the extent that my orders require action. His lack of leadership and his refusal to restrain his manservant may yet be the death of us all... Indeed they may have been the death of a certain ship captain who it appears briefly joined the group, and who it appears died in horrific circumstances in a shop in the docks area. Collecting waifs and strays seems to be the special talent of Lancelot, this time an English Archaeologist, scholar and all-round 'egg'. Bloody English stiff upper lipping will get them all killed.

I found scouted the two locations of immediate interest. The Ho Fong facility at the docks warehouse, and the Ho Fong house. Both are guarded, and both would seem to need positive entry that precluded stealth. The house in particular has regular visitors some of whom are invited inside some not. It was agreed that we need to access the shop where the Captain died. I agreed to go in with the Frenchie, English man. Both are something of a liability for convert work. Too the extent that the Frenchman ran off screaming and attracting all sorts of attention. We were fortunate therefore to get the brief look round we did, and to secure the ship Captains bag, which contained papers of ownership and other materials. At least we have a route away from here now, if needed.

We need to:

Establish ownership with the relevant parties
Establish a presence on the boat and access to the records therein
Ensure that crew get paid, ensure they accept the new regime

Having discussed it was agreed to visit the Ho Fong home. A direct approach was called for, involving some fast talk and we are finally admitted. Entry into the place was easy enough, but the result was always in doubt, the moment a servant decided to advise Hong Fu. The ensuing unpleasantness resulted in injuries. Lancelot comes in a little useful. Searching the premises, it was clear there is a library, and some interesting book, Carnaby Wright and the Japaner both seemed excited at acquiring one book...

Further searching revealed a concealed entrance though a Buddha leading the cellar...

message sent by Major-General Dr. Sir J.A Lancelot Rutherford-Hill Friday 12th March 1926 from Shanghai to an unknown location

Dear Midnight,

Clearly, the fact that I am writing to you proves that I am alive at present.

However, I cannot say I am well; or at least well in spirit, having seen and experienced a great many things. Things beyond our mortal ken. Things beyond our understanding.

Were I to have led a life of gentile retirement, then perhaps I would feel, as many of my peers do, a solid sense of authority, wisdom and awareness. But such a life will never now be possible. I now feel dwarfed by our discoveries and realise how limited our awareness truly is.

We are not alone on our planet.

But, in spite of all this, where my faith is unshakeable is in the infinite brilliance of mankind. I feel that if we fail, that there will be others to take on the Great Cause. And whilst as flies to wanton boys are we to these 'gods', we will be as annoying as a pestilence as they have ever encountered!

To business: find out what you can about Lin Tang-Yu. We have heard he is perilously dangerous, so tread very, very carefully. Do not attempt any heroics. Leave what you find at the drop point. I have already sent the first volume of our exploits off for safe keeping.

Finally, keep an eye on Aiko. He seems rattled at present; ever since he obtained that wretched blade from one of Lin Tang-Yu's men (if you could find out if the item has some 'influence' over him, that would be most appreciated)

We are about to head to Ho Fong's residence (trouble is certainly bound to be found there) and I hope that I have more information should I return.

If not you will need to become a more active member of the party. I trust you will endeavour to continue our good work.

Your friend,

Jupiter

Really good session last night. I was still chuckling to myself on the way home over Mel's Role Playing.

So, the team consists of - a dead Canadian, a blinded and insane Nip who loses all control of his senses when he perceives somebody covets his precious, a British gent whose own mind is eroding beyond the point of being jaded, a Scot who killed a bug-eating girl and who is bound to suffer nightmares of the experience, an American trying to hold it together and a lunatic Frenchman whose tentative grip on reality relies on his fascination with a packet of spices - and we're supposed to save the world?

We're all doomed!
