“So, where did they find this?”

“In some hidden library in Marrakesh, sir. A recent Black Crescent raid. They obtained quite an amount of stuff. The guys in R&D are looking over most of it now.”

“Quite.”

“They thought you might want to look at this first before they did a more thorough check. It's not trapped in any way; carbon dating says early 1920s. Also... the blood is a match – erm, to you”

“I see…You can go, Talbot”

The agent turned and left the office, leaving Crowe to lean forward and ponder upon the old, thick, black leather-bound, blood-stained journal now sitting on his desk. Dog-eared though it was, it appeared to radiate a knowledge that only such books can on the first inspection.

Using a pencil, he propped the nib under the front cover and slowly opened it.

On the first page (written in the typically ostentatious handwriting of someone of that era’s learned stock) was an inscription,

For the survival of my progeny – and of all and beyond, I write this.

I pray to God, that those who hold this will use it to aid against those who threatened our very existence.

I pray to God, that the insights I have gleaned, small though they might be, might offer some direction to those who have and will sacrifice (like I have) their comforts to ensure our futures are bright.

And, I pray to God, that the darkness I have now seen and heard - and felt - that categorically exists will one day be vanquished by the efforts of those whom I now entrust these words and findings too.

May my darling Millie, and my Helly and little Barty forgive me. Might I see them again in the Light.

May the Gods Bless Us.

Cpt T.V. Crowe, Ph.D.

Crowe sat back on the chair. So, the stories that his parents had told him as a child might be true. They said that his great-great-grandfather was a man of mystery. But that also, his actions bought a disgrace to his family. The family records almost omitted him. It was like he never existed.

And now, nearly one hundred years later, perhaps Tamburlaine Crowe might be able to give his side of things.

To someone in his family who might understand…

A 'happy' coincidence?, thought Crowe.

And then, it struck him. He grimaced, then muttered, through gritted teeth,

"MacBride..."

He poured himself a glass of water, opened the first page, and started to read...

No Tony tonight and Hugh (most surprisingly) will be a bit late.

Assuming Andy C is still coming but haven't heard from him.

So just a heads up it may be a bit light on the ground this week...
